By October 9, the region had harvested 4.179 million tonnes of grain and completed work on 98% of planned acreage, Governor Yevgeny Solntsev said. The season's final total has not yet been announced.
According to the governor, winter crops accounted for 2.208 million tonnes, including 2.0989 million tonnes of high-quality winter wheat. More than half of the region's districts had completed grain harvesting.
Solntsev also forecast a sunflower harvest of more than 2 million tonnes. By the time of his statement, the crop had been harvested from 654,400 hectares, or 40% of the planned area, and oilseed output had reached 840,800 tonnes.
The regional newspaper Orenburzhye reported on October 2 that 98% of grain and legume acreage had been harvested by then, yielding 4.1771 million tonnes. The governor's latest figures show a further increase in the grain total, but harvesting is still under way, so the figure is not final.
