Pashinyan says Armenia-Azerbaijan peace is an established fact

Speaking at a CIS leaders' meeting in Turkmenbashi, Armenia's prime minister said there had been no deaths or injuries from cross-border gunfire for more than two years.

Nikol Pashinyan said peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan was an established fact. He spoke at a meeting of CIS leaders in Turkmenbashi.

"For more than two years there have been no people killed or wounded because of exchanges of fire between Armenians and Azerbaijanis," the prime minister said. He contrasted that period with the more than three decades since the 1990s, when people were killed and injured on both sides every year.

On August 8, 2025, after a meeting in Washington between Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and US President Donald Trump, a declaration was adopted concerning the initialling by the two countries' foreign ministers of an agreed text for an agreement establishing peace and interstate relations.

Armenia also agreed to cooperate with the United States and third parties on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. The route is intended to unblock transport links between Azerbaijan's main territory and its Nakhchivan exclave through Armenia.
