Plane carrying Ecuador central bank valuables leaves runway in Cuenca

A plane hired to carry valuables for Ecuador’s central bank ran off the runway at Cuenca’s airport on October 8. The bank said the crew was safe and the cargo remained intact and under guard.
The Cessna left the runway and fell down an embankment, RIA Novosti reported on October 9, citing videos circulating on social media. The light aircraft came to rest on a road near Mariscal La Mar airport.
The central bank described the incident as an emergency landing. It said security procedures had been activated and emergency services assisted the crew.
The bank said the valuables were checked and placed under guard. It remained in contact with the authorities and the transport company. The cause has yet to be established.
