Modi inaugurates upgraded Paramakudi railway station

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the upgraded Paramakudi railway station by video link on October 11. The work cost ₹13.96 crore, or 139.6 million rupees, under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Modi joined the ceremony from Chennai. The station's facade, canopies and existing buildings were improved, alongside upgraded platform surfaces and additional passenger shelters.

A new six-metre-wide footbridge connects platform 1 with platforms 2 and 4. Two lifts were installed at the existing footbridge to improve access for older passengers, people with disabilities, children, pregnant women and travellers carrying luggage.

Fencing was also added along platform edges. The new shelters comprise two bays on platform 1 and two bays each on platforms 2 and 3.

In the 2025–26 financial year, the station recorded 8.88 lakh departing passengers, equivalent to 888,000. Passenger revenue was ₹11.09 crore, or 110.9 million rupees. Total footfall reached 15.98 lakh, approximately 1.598 million, averaging 4,380 a day.

Ramanathapuram MP N. Navas Kani, Rajya Sabha member Dharmar and Paramakudi legislator K.K. Kathiravan attended. The station was among railway facilities inaugurated during the prime minister's visit to Tamil Nadu.
