Chennai police register sixth child-protection case against Gem Granites chief
Chennai police have registered a sixth case against Gem Granites chairman R. Veeramani under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. It is based on statements from two minors.
The Hindu, citing police sources, reported that the girls' allegations were combined into one investigation. The six cases concern alleged sexual abuse involving ten minor girls. The PTI news agency said the latest case was registered on October 10.
Police searched Veeramani's home on Lloyd's Road in Royapettah on October 11. Sources quoted by The Hindu said officers acted on specific information.
Investigators also asked a court to grant police custody of the accused for questioning in another case. The request does not mean the court has already authorised the transfer.
Veeramani and his associates were arrested in the first case and sent to Puzhal Central Prison. Police are continuing their investigation. The registration of further cases does not constitute a court finding of guilt.
