Podkolzin goal helps Edmonton claim fourth consecutive win against San Jose

Edmonton beat San Jose 3-1 on the road, with Vasily Podkolzin scoring to extend his points streak to five games from the start of the NHL season.

Mattias Ekholm opened the scoring in the 13th minute. After a scoreless second period, Podkolzin extended the visitors' lead in the 44th and Alex Formenton made it 3-0 in the 46th.

Macklin Celebrini scored San Jose's only goal in the 52nd minute. Russian Sharks goaltender Yaroslav Askarov stopped 17 of 20 shots. The period scores were 1-0, 0-0 and 2-1 for Edmonton.

Podkolzin now has seven points, comprising five goals and two assists. The Oilers won their fourth straight game and lead the Pacific Division with nine points. San Jose is fifth in the division with six points from five games.

Edmonton next visits the Los Angeles Kings overnight into October 14 Moscow time. San Jose hosts Boston on the same date.
