Police detail arrest of armed Ekazhevo resident

Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said a man who confined relatives in a house fired at least eight shots toward police.
Volk said the suspect's wife and father remained in the house and were not allowed to leave. When his father tried to take away the shotgun, the man allegedly began firing indiscriminately.
Police entered while the suspect was distracted. Volk said he fired toward them but was subdued. National Guard officers provided support and took the detained man to a police station.
The Investigative Committee had earlier said the suspect was 37 and that three children were also in the house. Preliminary information indicated that he was intoxicated.
The ministry said the shotgun apparently belonged to the suspect and was legally registered. Investigators are examining unlawful confinement and violence against a representative of authority. These accounts are not a court finding of guilt, and the reports of gunfire do not establish that anyone was wounded.
