Jeju police arrest man after woman under protection is killed
Police on South Korea’s Jeju island arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of killing a woman who had been registered for protection after reporting stalking and dating violence.
Jeju Seobu Police Station said the woman, in her 40s, was fatally stabbed outside a hotel at 1:38 a.m. on October 12. Officers detained the suspect hours later under emergency arrest procedures, according to Yonhap.
The man reportedly told investigators that the victim was a former partner. Police said she had reported him for stalking in October 2025 and made several reports of dating violence in May.
Last month, officers registered her for protection and provided a smartwatch for emergency alerts. Yonhap reported that she was unable to activate it during the attack. The report does not establish that the device malfunctioned.
According to the agency, no restraining order had been issued because formal cases had not been filed following the earlier reports. Police said they intended to seek a warrant for the suspect’s formal arrest after further investigation. The arrest is not a conviction.
