Space-focused classes open at Nezhinsky Lyceum

The lyceum is the third school in Russia’s Orenburg region to join the regional project with Roscosmos.
Governor Yevgeny Solntsev announced the opening on October 13. The programmes involve fifth- and tenth-grade classes. Cosmonaut and Hero of Russia Alexander Lazutkin attended the opening ceremony.
Pupils have begun studying programmes developed by the state corporation. Their curriculum includes space mathematics, mapping the universe, specialist English, rotational dynamics and electrical engineering. These subjects form the project’s specialised educational component.
The lyceum has its own planetarium. According to the governor, pupils will use it to study the universe and reinforce classroom learning. The project also provides for direct contact between schoolchildren and cosmonauts.
Solntsev linked the classes to efforts to develop a pathway from school through college to university. He presented that as a direction for regional education policy. Participation itself does not guarantee admission to a particular institution or employment in the space industry.
