Potato prices fall 13.1% in Russia in September

Potatoes recorded Russia's largest food price decline in September 2026, falling 13.1% over the month, Rosstat reported. Overall food prices decreased by 0.01%.
RIA Novosti reported that white cabbage fell 12.7% and carrots 12%. Onion and grape prices dropped 9.5%, beetroot 8.9% and apples 8.6%.
Lemons fell 4.3%, sweet peppers 2.6% and cucumbers 2.5%. Fresh mushrooms declined 1.2% and garlic 1.1%.
Outside the fruit and vegetable category, granulated sugar fell 1.8%. Coffee at fast-service establishments dropped 0.9%, while their products overall fell 0.8%. Champagne and biscuits each declined 0.5%.
These are changes for September, rather than year-to-date figures. Large declines in individual products accompanied a much smaller decrease in the overall food price index.
