ProZerno forecasts up to one million tonnes of grain transit through Baltic states

Russian grain consultancy ProZerno forecasts that grain transit through the Baltic states could reach 600,000 to one million tonnes by the end of 2026. Interfax reported the company’s estimate on October 14.

The consultancy estimates that Russian wheat shipments to Latvia exceeded 300,000 tonnes in August and September, including transit cargo. That shipment figure is distinct from Latvia’s previously signed contracts covering transit of up to 300,000 tonnes.

The forecast comes as Latvia considers higher charges or restrictions on Russian grain transit. Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs said Latvia could not independently impose the planned 300% increase in railway infrastructure charges or a complete ban, citing the European Union’s authority over tariffs and transit.

Latvian public broadcaster LSM reported his explanation. The proposed restrictions remain separate from ProZerno’s forecast, which describes possible future volumes rather than completed shipments for the whole year.
