Sources dispute Rahul Gandhi's account of meeting with President Murmu

Sources quoted by Press Trust of India have disputed Rahul Gandhi's claim that President Droupadi Murmu accepted the opposition's allegations of electoral misconduct during a meeting on October 9.

Gandhi said an INDIA bloc delegation had submitted a memorandum accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of undermining Indian democracy. He argued that Murmu had not challenged the allegations and described that response as acceptance. Gandhi also alleged that the 2024 election had been affected by misconduct.

In his own account, Gandhi also said the president had asked the delegation to provide evidence. Sources speaking to PTI called his interpretation incorrect and said it was unfortunate that the president was being drawn into the controversy.

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi separately accused Gandhi of lying and politicising constitutional institutions. Those remarks were the governing party's response to the opposition leader, rather than an independent determination of what occurred in the meeting.

The sources' comments challenge Gandhi's description of Murmu's response. They do not establish the underlying allegations of electoral misconduct as fact, and Gandhi's account does not amount to an official presidential endorsement of those claims.
