Relics of St. Luke of Crimea moved to Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Simferopol

Worshippers joined a procession through the city after a liturgy at Holy Trinity Cathedral. The relics will remain at Crimea’s main church during restoration work.

On October 9, clergy carried the reliquary containing the relics of St. Luke of Crimea from Simferopol’s Holy Trinity Cathedral, where it had been kept since 1996. The procession was led by Tikhon, Metropolitan of Simferopol and Crimea. Thousands of worshippers took part, RIA Novosti reported.

The procession headed to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The relics are being transferred temporarily while the cathedral and the surrounding quarter undergo restoration. They will remain available for veneration at their new location.

A divine liturgy was held at Holy Trinity Cathedral before the procession. The Crimean Metropolitanate had announced the transfer in advance and described it as a temporary measure for the duration of the restoration.
