Rosatom chief vows to pursue Hanhikivi-1 legal dispute

Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev said the company intends to pursue all stages of litigation over the cancelled Hanhikivi-1 nuclear project in Finland. Kommersant reported his comments on October 10, citing Interfax.
Likhachev also expressed hope that Finland's government would eventually revisit the nuclear project. That was his expectation, rather than an announcement by Finland that construction would resume.
The planned single-unit station was never completed. An application for its construction was submitted in 2015. Fennovoima terminated the contract in May 2022, citing significant delays by Rosatom and the war in Ukraine.
That year, Fennovoima sought €1.7 billion from the Russian side. Rosatom filed counterclaims for €3 billion and sought repayment of a €920.5 million loan. These amounts represent the parties' claims, rather than final compensation awards.
