Rosseti warns of SMS-code scams posing as electricity bill recalculations

Fraudsters are creating messenger accounts impersonating Rosseti subsidiaries and offering to update customers’ details or recalculate electricity charges. They then ask for codes sent in messages, the company warned on 19 October.

Rosseti said complaints about such messages had increased in recent days across several Russian regions.

The company urged recipients not to disclose personal information, SMS codes or so-called keys, and not to follow links sent by the accounts. It warned that the links could lead to malicious software.

Rosseti employees and staff at its subsidiaries do not create social media or messenger accounts and groups to arrange bill recalculations. Information about Rosseti’s operations is published through its official accounts.
