Ruud completes quarter-final set at all nine current Masters events

Casper Ruud reached his first Shanghai quarter-final on October 14, completing a career set of last-eight appearances at all nine current ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.
Shanghai had been the only event in the category where Ruud had never made the last eight. The ATP Tour highlighted his achievement. It concerns quarter-finals reached over his career, rather than titles won at every tournament.
The Norwegian advanced from the fourth round when Félix Auger-Aliassime retired with a knee problem. Ruud was leading 5–2 in the opening set, which was not completed. His passage was therefore secured by retirement rather than a full-match victory.
Ruud next faces Rafael Jodar for a semi-final place. The Spaniard beat Botic van de Zandschulp 6–7 (4–7), 6–4, 6–2. The Shanghai tournament is played on hard courts at the Qizhong tennis centre.
