Davidovich Fokina beats Hurkacz to reach Shanghai quarter-finals

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reached the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 quarter-finals after beating Hubert Hurkacz in three sets. The Spaniard won the deciding tie-break 8-6.

The fourth-round match ended 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 in Davidovich Fokina's favour. After losing the opening set, he levelled the match by taking the second. The deciding set went to a tie-break, which he won to complete the comeback.

He will face France's Arthur Gea for a place in the semi-finals. Gea defeated Czech player Jakub Mensik in his fourth-round match.

Hurkacz won the Shanghai title in 2023. This time, the Polish player exits the singles tournament in the last 16. Davidovich Fokina, ranked 26th in the ATP standings, advanced past an opponent ranked 34th.
