Ruud reaches Shanghai quarterfinals after Auger-Aliassime retires

Casper Ruud advanced to the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 quarterfinals on October 14. Félix Auger-Aliassime retired from their fourth-round match with a knee problem while trailing 5–2.
Play ended before the opening set was completed. The Tennis.com result card records a retirement by the Canadian, rather than a Ruud win through two or three completed sets.
Ruud will face Spain’s Rafael Jódar in the quarterfinals, AS reported. The match will determine which player advances to the Shanghai Masters semifinals.
In the previous round, Ruud defeated American Learner Tien 6–4, 7–6, winning the tiebreak 7–3. Auger-Aliassime reached their meeting after beating Pablo Carreño Busta.
