Samsung posts preliminary record operating profit as AI chip demand surges

Samsung Electronics said preliminary third-quarter operating profit reached 107.4 trillion won, or about $80.2 billion, surpassing 100 trillion won for the first time in the company’s history.

The world’s largest memory chipmaker said rising demand for components used in AI infrastructure continued to support its chip business. The preliminary result was close to the 106.1 trillion won operating-profit estimate cited by Reuters.

Samsung reported record second-quarter revenue of 171.5 trillion won and record operating profit of 89.5 trillion won, driven by its memory business.

In September, Samsung announced a strategic partnership with French AI startup Mistral AI, with plans to deploy its models across Samsung’s semiconductor operations. The company is expected to release its full third-quarter results, including a breakdown by business division, later this month.
