Shaganino wastewater treatment plant completed in New Moscow

The new facility in Krasnopakhorsky District can process up to 2,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day. The city plans to retire the old plant, which dates to the late 1960s, after the new one enters service.

Construction of a wastewater treatment plant in the village of Shaganino in New Moscow has been completed, Moscow Deputy Mayor Pyotr Biryukov said. The facility can process up to 2,000 cubic meters of wastewater a day. Once commissioned, it is expected to serve current and future users in Krasnopakhorsky District.

The site uses biological treatment to remove nitrogen and phosphorus, followed by disc microfiltration and ultraviolet disinfection. A gas-cleaning system was installed to reduce odors, while automated controls and remote monitoring will track the facility’s operation.

After the new complex enters service, the city plans to close the previous treatment plant, which was built in the late 1960s. Russian-made materials and equipment were used in construction, Biryukov said.

The project is part of a wider program to rebuild and expand wastewater systems in Moscow’s newly incorporated territories. City services previously inspected existing infrastructure before identifying facilities for modernization or replacement.
