Smart opens European orders for its two-seat #2 electric car

Orders for the Smart #2 open on October 13, with a German starting price of 19 990 euros and market availability planned for 2027.

The model made its debut at the Paris Motor Show and returns the brand to two-seat city cars measuring less than 2.8 metres. Smart operates through a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, with German design and Chinese engineering and production.

The European version uses a rear-mounted 60 kW motor and a 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Smart lists a target WLTP range of 290 km. That test-cycle figure is not a guarantee of the distance achievable in every driving condition.

DC charging supports up to 65 kW. The manufacturer says charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 20 minutes. AC charging capacity is 7.4 or 11 kW, depending on the version.

Four trim levels are offered in Germany. Pure starts at 19 990 euros and Pure+ at 20 990 euros. The latter adds 11 kW AC charging and a heated driver's seat. Prices and terms can differ in other markets.

Premium, priced from 24 490 euros, includes a panoramic roof, heating for both seats and the steering wheel, and a seven-speaker Sennheiser audio system. Couture Edition starts at 25 690 euros, with the European series limited to 999 cars.

The cabin has 8.8-inch and 10.1-inch displays, and the turning circle is 6.95 metres. Announced functions include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go operation, remote parking and external-device power through an additional adaptor.
