Coimbatore district police report 14 arrests after simultaneous raids
Police in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, carried out simultaneous checks at 228 locations on October 11. They reported 14 arrests and seizures of drugs and banned tobacco products.
Police said they seized 7.7 kilograms of cannabis and 45 kilograms of banned tobacco products. They registered 10 cases and arrested 12 people in connection with those seizures. Two other people who had been wanted by police were also arrested, The Hindu reported.
The searches also yielded two grams of methamphetamine, 1,000 prescription-drug tablets, five mobile phones, 16 two-wheelers, two sickles and 15,000 rupees. The seizure of an item does not itself establish its owner’s guilt.
District Superintendent of Police A. Pavan Kumar Reddy ordered the operation. Teams searched 132 locations in the Karumathampatty subdivision and 96 in the Perur subdivision. There were 72 special teams, with 42 assigned to the former and 30 to the latter.
Police said they selected locations using intelligence. The searches targeted wanted offenders, people previously involved in cannabis or banned-tobacco cases and other suspects. Dinamani separately reported the operation at the same 228 locations.
The reported results concern a distinct operation conducted on the morning of October 11. Its figures should not be added to those from earlier enforcement drives in Coimbatore city.
