Chelyabinsk company director fined 20 million roubles over Lake Uvildy bribe

Chelyabinsk’s Kalininsky District Court fined a company director 20 million roubles for giving a bribe. The regional Federal Security Service said he sought to avoid liability for illegal construction on the shore of Lake Uvildy.

The man gave an employee of the Chelyabinsk Region’s Specially Protected Natural Areas institution 100 thousand roubles of a promised total of 600 thousand roubles, the security service said. The employee was responsible for protecting the region’s natural sites.

Officers detained the defendant on June 24. The regional Investigative Committee investigated the case.

Local news agency Dostup, citing the security service, reported that the court took his admission of guilt and active repentance into account. The judgment has not yet entered into legal force.
