Singer Ivan Borodulin reports planned surgery after rehearsal fall
Opera singer Ivan Borodulin told RIA Novosti he was in hospital after falling during a rehearsal at the Mariinsky Theatre. He said surgery was planned for the following day.
Borodulin said he fell 7 metres after his safety equipment failed. He reported an open fracture of the radius with displacement at the elbow and a concussion.
The singer said he had already spent a week in hospital with the open fracture. Surgery had been delayed by complications after the injury. Doctors told him recovery would take at least two and a half months, he said.
Borodulin said restrictions on flying because of a thrombosis risk had affected his work contracts. A possible performance in Karelia in December would depend on medical approval. He cited March as a possible return to the stage and April for resuming flights.
He also said the Mariinsky Theatre and Russia’s Investigative Committee were examining the circumstances of the fall.
