Suspect detained over attack on nine-year-old girl in Krasnoyarsk

Police detained a man suspected of attacking a nine-year-old girl in Krasnoyarsk, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk said on Oct. 13. Investigators opened a case over violent hooliganism.
The attack took place on Olkhovaya Street while the child was walking home with her mother, according to the regional Investigative Committee. Local reporting dates the incident to the evening of Oct. 9.
Investigators said a passing man pulled the girl by her hood, squeezing her neck. A friend of the man intervened and stopped his actions.
Volk said the detained man could not explain his conduct and referred to being intoxicated. That is his account to police, rather than an established explanation of his motives.
The case was opened under Article 213 of Russia’s Criminal Code. The detention marks a development from earlier reports that police were searching for the man. It does not constitute a finding of guilt.
