TCS expects US hiring plans to withstand PERM suspension

Tata Consultancy Services said on October 9 that it does not expect its suspension from the US PERM programme to affect its workforce strategy or client engagements. The company reaffirmed plans to hire another 15,000 people in the United States over five years.

TCS said its PERM applications over the past two years were in single digits. It cited that limited volume in explaining its assessment of the restrictions and said it would comply with Department of Labor directives.

The company said its US staffing strategy relies on local recruitment and hiring university graduates. It described a significant local workforce across 31 offices and delivery centres. The additional 15,000 hires are part of a previously announced plan covering the next five years.

The Hindu reported that the United States suspended several technology companies, including TCS, from PERM on October 8. The programme concerns labour certification used in applications for permanent residence. TCS’s statement sets out its expectations for the business, rather than completed results of the planned hiring.
