Sweden plans Andersson vote despite unresolved government talks

Magdalena Andersson said she has not secured an agreement to form a government, while parliament's speaker intends to hold a vote on Thursday.

The Social Democratic leader reported on her negotiations to Riksdag Speaker Andreas Norlen on October 13. She said the process had not advanced far enough and there was still no agreement with the other parties.

Her centre-left bloc won 176 seats in the September 13 election, against 173 for Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's right-wing coalition. However, the four parties on the winning side disagree about which parties should join the next cabinet.

Norlen said he would schedule a vote on Andersson's candidacy for Thursday, October 15, despite the unresolved talks. Andersson said she expected to fail a vote under the present conditions.

She described giving Kristersson the next mandate to try to form a government as a reasonable step. That was her assessment of what should happen next, rather than an announcement that the mandate had already been transferred.
