Tanker catches fire after projectile strike in Strait of Hormuz

An unidentified projectile hit a tanker's port side and started a fire in the Strait of Hormuz, UK Maritime Trade Operations reported. Roya News, citing the agency, said the crew were safe.

The captain of the outbound vessel reported the incident to UKMTO. Roya News placed the strike at approximately 19:20 UTC on October 10. RIA Novosti reported the onboard fire on October 11.

The extent of damage and possible environmental consequences were unknown when the report was issued. UKMTO urged ships crossing the strait to proceed cautiously and report suspicious activity. The reports did not establish who was responsible for the strike.
