TASS says Moscow visit awaits clarity on Ukraine’s position

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner still intend to visit Moscow but want clarity on Ukraine’s negotiating position first, TASS reported, citing a source.

In the October 12 report, the source said the American negotiators faced difficulties understanding Kyiv’s position. Asked whether a visit could take place within the next two weeks, the source did not specify a date and said different options remained available.

Interfax also carried an Axios report saying Witkoff and Kushner were not yet planning a Russia visit until they understood the positions of Ukraine and its European partners. These accounts describe preliminary intentions and do not confirm an agreed meeting.

Axios had reported on October 9 that the pair could travel to Moscow during October for talks with Vladimir Putin. That was a possible timeframe rather than an announced appointment.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was ready to welcome the American representatives and that Putin would be glad to meet them. His remarks indicate Russia’s willingness to host talks, without establishing that a visit schedule has been approved.
