Telangana to review Hyderabad Metro-bus common pass prices

Telangana will review the cost of Hyderabad's common Metro and bus passes after complaints that they are too expensive, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on October 12.

The minister said senior officials would meet to examine the fare structure. Public feedback and conditions on the ground would inform the decision. The reports did not announce replacement prices or a date when they would take effect.

Introduced on October 2, 2026, the monthly pass costs 8,500 rupees. Of that amount, 7,000 rupees goes to Hyderabad Metro Rail and 1,500 to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. The daily pass costs 400 rupees, split into 300 for the Metro and 100 for buses.

The Hindu reported that critics also questioned the pass's scope because it excludes the MMTS suburban rail network and feeder transport such as shared autorickshaws and shuttle services.

Prabhakar said the government wanted to encourage public transport use without imposing excessive charges. UNI and Deccan Chronicle independently reported his announcement of the review.
