AK-47 and six grenades found in Poonch cave cache

Indian soldiers and police found weapons in a natural cave in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Oct. 13. Officials said the cache contained an AK-47, six hand grenades and ammunition.
The operation followed information about suspicious activity in the Satarban forest area. Soldiers and police searched the cave and recovered the rifle, a magazine, 30 rounds and medical supplies.
The Hindu, UNI and local news agency KINS reported the recovery. KINS also said a bomb disposal team destroyed the grenades at the site.
The Hindu reported that nobody was arrested during the operation. Discovery of the cache does not by itself establish ownership of the weapons or other items.
Separately, the newspaper reported that troops found two rusted mines near the border fence in the Basoni area of Mendhar sector that morning. They were discovered during track construction and destroyed by Army specialists in a controlled explosion.
