Trump honours Sergey Brin and five technology executives

US President Donald Trump presented national awards to Google co-founder Sergey Brin and five other technology executives on October 8. The recipients were recognised for achievements in science, technology and innovation.

Brin, SpaceX founder Elon Musk, Nvidia chief Jensen Huang and AMD chief Lisa Su received the National Medal of Science. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The White House published the award categories and recipients.

In his remarks, Trump praised Brin's contribution to information retrieval. He described the Google co-founder as a computer scientist who had changed how people access knowledge. RIA Novosti reported the presentation of Brin's award.

Trump also said Brin had returned to work at the company he co-founded to contribute personally to artificial intelligence development. The president used the term superintelligence to describe that work. The characterisation was part of his remarks at the ceremony.
