ISRO ‘Rocket Revolution’ exhibition opens at Tamil Nadu college

A two-day exhibition on modern space-launch technology opened at Sethu Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu. It was organized by ISRO’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

The opening was presided over by institute founder and chairman S. Mohamed Jaleel. S. Sankaran, deputy director of the Vikram Sarabhai Lecture Facility and chair of World Space Week 2026, was the chief guest. He noted that the UN General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week would be observed each year from Oct. 4 to 10.

This year’s theme focuses on how modern launch technologies are lowering the cost of access to space and creating more opportunities for universities, small businesses and students to take part in space research. Organizers are holding World Space Week events at six sites in three states: Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.

The Sethu Institute program includes lectures and interactive sessions with senior ISRO scientists. P. A. Saravana Perumal, project director of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle launch complex, and institute principal Sivakumar attended the opening.

Organizers said more than 8,000 school students from southern districts are taking part in the two-day program. Activities include drawing, quiz, colouring and essay competitions, as well as exhibits of rockets and other space-related technology.
