Ufa rescuers free man trapped in tree about 6 metres above ground

Rescuers in Ufa's Leninsky district brought a 66-year-old man down from a tree after his leg became trapped between its trunks about 6 metres above ground, the city's civil protection department said.

The pensioner had climbed the tree to cut branches but slipped and could not free himself.

Rescuers secured him with a climbing safety harness, then used a hydraulic tool to prise the trunks apart and release his leg. They lowered him to the ground using rescue equipment.

Ambulance staff examined the man and found no serious injuries. He declined to go to hospital.
