UK launches campaign against loud music on public transport

The UK government launched a campaign on October 19 urging rail passengers to use headphones and issued guidance on tackling nuisance behaviour on buses in England.

Existing railway rules allow authorised staff to remove passengers who refuse to stop playing loud music or videos when asked. The maximum fine is 1000 pounds.

Fixed penalties on buses can reach 100 pounds. Local authorities must adopt relevant byelaws and obtain the transport secretary's approval before enforcing them.

Authorised officers, including police and transport safety officers, will handle enforcement. Bus drivers will not be responsible for it.
