Ukrainian energy expert urges people to avoid lifts after 3 p.m. amid outages

Stanislav Ihnatiev warned that sudden power cuts could leave passengers trapped. Ukrenergo announced scheduled outages in some regions on Tuesday but did not name them.

Ukrainian energy expert Stanislav Ihnatiev urged residents not to use lifts after 15.00, or 3 p.m., warning that an unexpected power cut could leave them trapped in a lift cabin. He made the remarks to the Ukrainian outlet Novosti.Live, RIA Novosti reported.

Ihnatiev said stable electricity supply could not be restored in the near future. He said people would have to adapt to regular outages for three to five (3–5) years, or possibly longer.

On Tuesday, national energy company Ukrenergo said scheduled cuts for household and industrial consumers were being introduced in several regions, without specifying which ones. Mass outages also began in Kyiv that day, prompting residents and businesses to use petrol generators.
