Western Australia police charge eight drivers over extreme speeding

Eight drivers in Western Australia have been charged with reckless driving following speeding investigations. In one case, police allege a McLaren was travelling at 259 km/h.
A camera recorded the orange coupe on Forrest Highway in Binningup around 9:20 p.m. on August 12. The alleged driver, a 21-year-old Shenton Park resident, faces charges of reckless driving at 155 km/h or more and failing to provide information identifying a driver. He is due at Bunbury Magistrates Court on October 15.
Police also reported allegations of driving at 133 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in Malaga and 160 km/h under the same limit in Henderson. A 26-year-old man in Port Kennedy allegedly exceeded the limit by 127 km/h.
On October 6, police seized two Mercedes-Benz AMG cars and a Lexus after an alleged joint speeding incident on Wanneroo Road in Madeley. Investigators say the vehicles reached up to 194 km/h on the Mitchell Freeway. Three drivers aged 17, 22 and 19 have been charged.
Between July 1 and September 30, 553 people were charged with reckless driving and 3,075 vehicles were impounded in the state. Road Policing Command commander Mike Peters warned that an unexpected hazard or momentary distraction at 259 km/h could have catastrophic consequences. The charges remain allegations rather than court findings of guilt.
