Nasdaq drops 1.25% as AI-linked shares weigh on Wall Street

US stocks ended mixed on October 8: the Dow Jones rose 0.10%, while the S&P 500 fell 0.47% and the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.25%. Brent futures gained more than 4%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 51 points to close at 51,231. The S&P 500 fell 36 points to 7,765, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 345 points to 27,193. The closing levels and moves in the major indexes were also reported by The Associated Press.

AP said losses in technology shares, including companies linked to artificial intelligence, outweighed gains among most S&P 500 stocks. Oil also rose: December Brent futures settled at $104.28 a barrel, up about 4%.

Investors were also weighing concerns about inflation and the prospect of tighter monetary policy. The session reflected pressure on major technology stocks alongside higher energy prices.
