Viktor Drobysh criticises lip-syncing at solo concerts

Composer and producer Viktor Drobysh said established singers should perform live at their solo concerts. In an interview published by RIA Novosti on October 10, he allowed an exception for television shows featuring multiple performers.
Drobysh argued that singing along to recorded vocals at a performer's own concert was incompatible with the standing of a major singer. He characterised that practice in sharply critical terms as deceiving the audience.
He distinguished solo performances from televised concerts involving several artists. For that television format, he said, reliance on recorded vocals could be unavoidable.
The producer also described contrasting approaches among performers. Some insist on singing live regardless of the format, while others consistently use recordings. He directed particular criticism at bloggers who become singers and take pride in lip-syncing.
For Drobysh, the objection extended beyond those artists' use of recorded vocals to their attempts to promote the practice to others.
