Volkhov targets new water treatment system for early 2028

A 6.38 billion rouble reconstruction of water treatment facilities in Volkhov is intended to bring a new treatment technology into service in early 2028. Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko announced the target on October 9.

Construction is scheduled to finish by mid-2028. The reconstructed facilities are expected to have a capacity of 22,350 cubic metres a day. The governor said equipment had already been purchased and the main block was expected to be enclosed under a roof by the end of this year.

Drozdenko inspected the site with Yuri Solomonov, chief designer of the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology. The institute is delivering a project the governor described as one of three of its kind in Russia. A Lenoblvodokanal base will also be located at the site.

A project using similar technology is planned for Vyborg in 2027. Drozdenko said both developments were being financed jointly with the federal budget and linked the technology to better regional water treatment. The dates are planned milestones rather than confirmation of completed work.
