
A woman and four children died in an apartment fire on Gamarnika Street in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Neighbors rescued two other children, the regional Investigative Committee said.
The fire broke out early on October 8 in an apartment on the fourth floor of a residential building. It covered 10 square meters. The five victims were found while firefighters were tackling the blaze, according to the Investigative Directorate for the Khabarovsk Territory and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
Investigators are examining the scene. They ordered fire-technical, forensic medical and criminalistic examinations to establish the cause and circumstances of the fire. A criminal case has been opened over the negligent deaths of two or more people.
The regional directorate said it was carrying out additional investigative measures to establish all the circumstances. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
