Yerevan council votes to rename Frunze Street Yervanduni

Yerevan's Council of Elders decided on October 13 to rename Mikhail Frunze Street after Armenia's Orontid royal dynasty. Its new name will be Yervanduni.
The street lies in the Shengavit administrative district, between Garegin Nzhde and Bagratunyats streets. Armenian outlets covering the council meeting confirmed the decision.
Council member Kristine Vardanyan of the Civil Contract party said the initiative had been prepared with colleagues. She said Shengavit would now have two streets and an avenue named after three royal dynasties: the Bagratids, Arsacids and Orontids.
Vardanyan described the decision as a contribution to preserving historical memory. At the same meeting, the council separately decided to name Nor Aresh's third street in the Erebuni district after poet and translator Metakse.
