Dodgers eliminate Braves as Korean infielder makes postseason debut

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 4-1 in Game 4 to win their National League Division Series 3-1. Kim Hye-seong made his first appearance of this postseason, while the Braves’ elimination ended Kim Ha-seong’s season.

The deciding game was played Wednesday at Truist Park. The Dodgers tied the score in the fifth inning, then Andy Pages hit a two-run single in the seventh to put Los Angeles ahead. The club won Game 4 by a 4-1 score and advanced to the National League Championship Series for a third consecutive year.

The Dodgers will face the winner of the Milwaukee Brewers-San Diego Padres series. Kim Hye-seong entered as a defensive replacement at second base to start the bottom of the ninth inning. It was his first appearance in this year’s postseason. He played 43 regular-season games, batting 0.259 with one home run, 11 RBIs and five stolen bases. He spent most of the season in the minors before Los Angeles recalled him on Sept. 28.

The Braves’ elimination ended the season for Kim Ha-seong, who appeared in 51 regular-season games and hit 0.116. The South Korean shortstop missed the start of the season after tearing a tendon in his right middle finger. He was injured in January when he slipped on ice while in South Korea. He missed additional time in July because of inflammation in the surgically repaired finger.

Kim Ha-seong finished the regular season without a home run, with 38 strikeouts and 16 walks. In four postseason games, he went hitless in five at-bats and struck out three times. He was on the bench for the series finale.
