Bublik recounts Shanghai taxi collision ahead of tournament debut

Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik said he was unhurt when a woman’s car struck the door of his taxi in Shanghai.

Bublik had arrived in the Chinese city for the Masters 1000 tournament and was heading to practice before his opening match. In an interview with Championat, he said he realized there had been a collision as he was getting out of the taxi.

According to Bublik, another car hit the door hard. He said he had not opened it or put a leg outside, and was not injured. The taxi door was badly bent in the impact.

Bublik is seeded 19th at the tournament. He is due to play Czech player Tomas Machac in the second round. The Kazakh has won one title this season, in Hong Kong, where he beat Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the final.
