New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge urged the club’s front office to make an aggressive effort to improve the roster this offseason after the team was eliminated from Major League Baseball’s postseason.
The Tampa Bay Rays won Game 3 by a score of 4-3 to complete a sweep of the American League Division Series. Judge missed the postseason because of a lingering calf injury and watched the game from the dugout.
After the loss, Judge said the Yankees should go all-in and find players who can fill gaps on the roster. “I signed back here to play with the Yankees to fight for a championship every single year,” he said. Judge added that he prepares each offseason to give everything he can to the team and expects the same commitment from the front office.
New York won 93 regular-season games, the second-best record in the American League, but was eliminated at home for the third time in its last three postseason appearances. The club has not won a World Series in 17 years. CBS Sports said the Yankees need upgrades at second base, third base, center field and in the bullpen.
CBS Sports noted that the team already has a deep starting rotation. The outlet said the current free-agent market could limit the club’s options if it tries to make major additions.
