About 77,000 students to take October functional literacy assessments
Russia’s education oversight agency, Rosobrnadzor, said about 77,000 school and vocational college students would take functional literacy assessments in October. The studies will cover 498 educational institutions.
Assessments for sixth- and ninth-grade pupils are scheduled for October 20 and 22. Seventh- and tenth-grade pupils, along with first- and final-year vocational students, will participate on October 27 and 29.
The sample includes 300 schools and 198 vocational colleges and technical institutions. It therefore covers both general education pupils and students pursuing vocational training.
Functional literacy measures how learners apply acquired knowledge and skills to educational tasks and real-life problems. Rosobrnadzor links it to competencies developed through lessons and extracurricular activities.
The assessments have yet to take place. The agency’s announcement sets out participation and dates for the forthcoming studies, rather than their results.
