Russian Paralympic champion Musa Taimazov dies at 42

Musa Taimazov, the Russian Paralympic club throw champion, died on October 10 at the age of 42, according to the regional news agency RIA Dagestan.

Taimazov won gold in the F51 club throw at the Tokyo Games. The competition retained the Tokyo 2020 name but took place in 2021. The Russian Paralympic Committee also lists a bronze medal at the 2019 world championships among his achievements.

A spinal injury in 2004 left him using a wheelchair. He took up wheelchair rugby in 2010 and subsequently represented Russia in the sport.

Taimazov received the title of Honoured Master of Sport and the Order of Friendship. Club throw uses a wooden implement resembling a bowling pin and provides a throwing event for athletes whose mobility limitations prevent participation in other throws.
