Air India, Air India Express and Akasa Air are introducing or increasing fuel surcharges on domestic and international flights. The changes apply to bookings made from Oct. 9.
Air India and Air India Express have set domestic surcharges ranging from 400 to 1,200 rupees. On international routes, the charge will be $55 for West Asia and the Middle East, $135 for Europe, $210 for Australia and $215 for North America.
Akasa Air is also introducing a surcharge on domestic flights. It will range from 375 to 1,150 rupees depending on route length. A 2,500-rupee surcharge will apply on selected international routes. The airlines’ new charges take effect on Oct. 9.
The moves follow IndiGo’s latest 37% to 50% increase in domestic fuel surcharges. The airlines cited sustained increases in aviation fuel prices amid continuing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
