Armed man dies after security officer shooting at Nashville courthouse

A security officer at Nashville's federal courthouse shot a man carrying a pistol and knife on October 8. The wounded man was taken to hospital, where he died, city police said.
Police spokesperson Don Aaron said preliminary information indicated that the man tried to fire the pistol but it failed to discharge. He then produced a knife near the entrance checkpoint. Police presented those circumstances as an initial account of the incident.
Aaron said a confrontation followed between the man and the security officer stationed at the checkpoint, and the officer opened fire. RIA Novosti gave the man's age as 40. US media also reported that he was armed and was shot by security.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will handle the shooting investigation, local outlet The Tennessean reported. The initial police account describes the sequence of events but does not replace the eventual findings about the officer's use of force.
