Pakistan’s military reports test launch of Fatah-2 ER missile
Pakistan’s army conducted a test launch of the extended-range Fatah-2 ER missile on October 13, its public relations service said. The military described the test as successful and the system as a hypersonic ballistic missile.
The statement said Fatah-2 ER was equipped with navigation systems and modern avionics. According to the military, its extended range is intended to increase the army’s ability to engage distant targets.
The claimed ability to overcome missile defences through its trajectory and manoeuvrability also comes from the military. The statement reviewed did not provide precise range or speed figures, or independently measured results for those characteristics.
Army Rocket Force commander Lieutenant General Nauman Zakaria, senior officers, scientists and engineers witnessed the launch. Pakistan’s leadership congratulated the test team.
Pakistan also reported an extended-range Fatah-IV ground-launched cruise missile test last week. That involved a different system and a separate launch.
